Collective Bargaining Updates

January 26, 2021

UCalgary and PDAC concluded bargaining in September, 2020. The first collective agreement between the parties was ratified on September 21, 2020, approved by HRGC on October 5, 2020 and became effective on January 1, 2021.

September 10, 2020

The University of Calgary is pleased to announce that a tentative deal has been reached with the Postdoctoral Association of the University of Calgary on a first collective agreement. Details will be announced after the ratification process is complete.

May 13, 2020

The University of Calgary and The Postdoctoral Association of the University of Calgary continue to have productive discussions as we work towards a first collective agreement. The parties met on April 27th and May 8th and are scheduled to meet again on May 20th. Both parties are encouraged by the level of progress that has been achieved and are eager to continue discussions.

May 12, 2020

The University of Calgary is pleased to announce that a tentative agreement has been reached on a new collective agreement with the GSA. Details will be announced after the ratification process is complete.

April 20, 2020

The University of Calgary and The Postdoctoral Association of the University of Calgary commenced collective bargaining on April 17, 2020. Both parties exchanged proposals and had a productive discussion over Zoom. Bargaining will resume on April 22, 2020 and both parties are hopeful that significant progress can be made.

March 20, 2020

On March 18, the University of Calgary and the GSA carried out a bargaining session via the video conference app Zoom. Discussions were productive and collaborative with significant progress being made.

March 11, 2020

The University of Calgary is committed to achieving a fair and reasonable settlement with the Graduate Student Association. The discussions to date have been cordial and productive and we believe progress is being made. Out of respect for the confidential nature of the collective bargaining process the University will not comment on specifics. We look forward to concluding negotiations as soon as practicable with a deal that is acceptable to both parties.

Feb. 19, 2020

The GSA formally served notice to bargain with the University of Calgary on January 13, 2020. Collective bargaining will commence on Friday, February 21, 2020 and will continue until a new agreement is reached.

Dec. 15, 2019

UCalgary's collective agreement with TUCFA is set to expire June 30, 2020 and the agreement with the GSA will expire on April 30, 2020.  

UCalgary and PDAC are also in a position to negotiate a first collective agreement in 2020. 

Further updates will be provided after collective bargaining has commenced with each of these groups.
