Guide to Services for Students
All students registered at the University of Calgary are required to pay a student service fee based on full-time or part-time status. We report on how this fee supports the student experience annually. Annual reports can be downloaded from this page. 1. Information Technologies
Information Technologies (IT) provides computing and media services, including many online services available to students.
Other free software
Top Hat eLearning software
Top Hat eLearning software: If an instructor uses Top Hat in the learning environment for their students, those students can access the software at no additional costs. Learn more..
Discounted software
Students can purchase a variety of software at significant discounts for home use. This includes software from Microsoft, Adobe, and more. Access to licenses expire upon termination of student status with UCalgary. To purchase software you'll need to first register here with your @ucalgary.ca email.

2. Office of Registrar and Enrolment Services
The Office of the Registrar includes Enrolment Services and provides supports to all UCalgary students with various activities associated with their student record. These services are available to students at no additional charge.
- Schedule Builder (SB) is a web-based tool to help you schedule courses. It’s a great benefit for students in cohort-based programs trying to find an open option that fits into their schedule.
- As a UCalgary student, you're eligible to apply for many scholarships, awards and bursaries. Please visit the awards website for more information.

3. Faculty of Graduate Studies
The Faculty of Graduate Studies
The Faculty of Graduate Studies provides leadership and support for graduate education and research. They also offer graduate professional development with MyGradSkills, direct student service help, ad assistance with questions about graduate fees. The Graduate Scholarship Office provides support to graduate students as they seek funding opportunities, and they're responsible for managing all processes involved in graduate scholarship funding. 4. Services for Indigenous Students
Services for Indigenous Students
Writing Symbols Lodge provides a culturally-appropriate environment that encourages and supports the success of Indigenous students in their pursuit of knowledge and higher education. The Writing Symbols Lodge offers social and programming space for students and provides Indigenous students access to an on-site computer lab. Staff provide one-on-one advising related to pre-admissions, general academics, financial, personal (non-academic) or self-declaration to current and prospective Indigenous Students.
Writing Symbols Lodge also coordinates a transition year program through Open Studies for Indigenous students. The program includes three university courses (taken as a cohort), as well as weekly academic workshops, dedicated advising support, and cultural and peer support.
UCalgary also offers specialist supports for Indigenous students in Career Services, UCalgary Student Wellness Services, and Admissions and Recruitment.

5. International Student Services
International Student Services
International Student Services (ISS) provides support services and customized advising for all international students adjusting to studying at UCalgary and to life in Canada. This includes programs that connect international and Canadian students. ISS includes one full-time Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC), one Regulated International Student Immigration Advisors (RISIAs) for temporary residence immigration advising (study permits, work permits, and visas), and one casual RCIC for permanent residence immigration advising.

6. Student Ombuds
The Student Ombuds
The Student Ombuds is a confidential support for when you need advice about a situation in your program. They can advise you of your rights and help you navigate the process whether you're required to withdraw, facing an appeal or investigation, or in another similar situation. The Student Ombuds (Jeff Stransky) can connect with you by phone, email, Skype, Zoom or in person in MacEwan Student Centre (MSC) 274.

7. Career Services
CareerLink
CareerLink is our student's go-to hub for everything Career Services. You can book advisor appointments, register for events and search for jobs all in one place. For students thinking of international careers, MyWorldAbroad is a web platform for developing global careers skills. All UCalgary students have access – just use your UCalgary email address to log in.

Leadership and Student Engagement
Leadership and Student Engagement (LSE) is committed to helping every UCalgary student thrive. The LSE's programing includes:
- Orientation – Fall Orientation, Online Orientation, First Year Council, Your First Year programming and events
- Leadership Programs – CliftonStrengths for Students, Co-Curricular Record, Emerging Leaders Program, Involvement Advising, Leadership on Demand, Peer Helper Program, Sophomore Leadership Program, Student Leadership Conference, Student Activities Fund.

Student Success Centre
The Student Success Centre helps students navigate the academic side of their university experience. The SSC offers academic support for undergraduate and graduate students through workshops and one-on-one appointments, which can be tailored to each student's needs.

11. International Opportunities

International Opportunities
UCalgary facilitates a variety of opportunities – such as group study, exchange with an international institution, or volunteer programs – for students to get an international experience while studying for their degree. We are committed to making international opportunities accessible; there is over half a million dollars in UCalgary funding available to students going abroad on UCalgary programs, plus a variety of external awards that you may be eligible for.
The Study Abroad team provides comprehensive advising and support to students before, during and after their program. They also administer travel grants available to all UCalgary students, and oversee the incoming exchange application process.

12. Student Wellness Services
Student Wellness Services
Student Wellness Services (SWS) is your on-campus resource for health and wellness support, offering a wide range of service options. Visit us for medical and mental health care, as well as chiropractic and massage appointments with our team of professionals.
SWS services include:
- Health services: family medicine, travel medicine for study abroad students, chiropractic care, psychiatry, nutrition, massage therapy
- Health promotion and outreach: peer support and activities
- Mental health services: Wellness Online (D2L course), case management, student-at-risk support, workshops and group programs, and short term counselling services for personal, academic and career development.
An after-hours telephone line, in collaboration with the Distress Centre and Wood’s Homes Community Resource Team, is available whenever the Centre is closed.

Student Accessibility Services
Student Accessibility Services (SAS) works collaboratively and innovatively with the campus community to create an accessible, equitable and supportive learning environment that enhances each student's academic and personal development. Women’s Resource Centre
The Women's Resource Centre (WRC) provides a safe and supportive place to advance gender equality. The WRC helps build community through sharing, learning and teaching. All experiences are valued, and everyone is offered the resources necessary to make informed choices.

16. Creating a Safe and Secure Community
Student Conduct Office
The Student Conduct Office works with all members of the university community to facilitate the resolution of alleged student non-academic misconduct. Any member of the community who has observed, or been subject to, an alleged incident of student non-academic misconduct can report an incident.

Campus Security | Risk Management | Insurance, Environment, Health and Safety
Campus Security works closely with the university community, Calgary Police Service and other agencies to maintain UCalgary as a safe place to live, work and study.
They offer a diverse range of services for students including support for the Safe Walk and Working Alone programs, security for student events, risk assessments, WCB coverage for distance education students, international travel registration. They also oversee health and safety and environmental programs, international and domestic emergency responses, and various types of liability, vehicle and accident insurance required for students to complete academic programs and research.
