We appreciate your efforts to support and champion the success of Indigenous students and communities at UCalgary. Our employer relations team and career development specialists, along with Writing Symbols Lodge, are happy to help you maximize your Indigenous recruitment strategy and facilitate meaningful connections with Indigenous students and recent graduates on our campus.

We offer a number of dedicated events to help you connect directly with students and promote your organization within the community. If you’re hoping to improve upon or create your company’s Indigenous recruitment strategy, or are looking to expand your organization’s intercultural capacity, we also offer many opportunities for education and knowledge sharing.

Indigenous Student Career Fair

Get a head start on your recruitment efforts and foster key relationships with students early in the year. At our largest Indigenous career event of the year, you'll have the opportunity to engage with post-secondary students from institutions around Calgary.

Indigenous Relations Training Program (IRTP)

With increased economic activity, business development and growth/expansion in Indigenous communities, a basic level of knowledge about Indigenous people in Canada is a valuable asset for employers seeking to expand their cultural capacity. 

This four-day certificate course covers the historical context, current issues for Indigenous communities, trends, ways you can foster meaningful relationships and more. Corporate rates and alumni discounts are also available.

Federal support

The Government of Canada offers many opportunities to offset your labour costs for hiring students. Through Indigenous Services Canada (ISC), you can be eligible for funding when you hire an Indigenous student or support Indigenous initiatives.

Community Futures Treaty 7

Community Futures Treaty 7 offers support for all First Nations status students in Treaty 7 territory.

Rupertsland Institute (RLI) — Centre for Métis Excellence

Rupertsland Institute (RLI) — Centre for Métis Excellence offers support, training and certification for Métis individuals. Employers can get in touch with RLI for access to their programs that support the Métis community and help individuals enter the labour market.
