The 2022 WRC Awards of Excellence
The Women's Resource Centre is pleased to announce the recipients of the WRC Awards of Excellence for 2022.
These annual awards showcase and celebrate the outstanding success of University of Calgary community members. Each year, women are recognized for their wisdom, resiliency, and compassion in the face of adversity. Award recipients exemplify outstanding leadership in their personal and professional lives and strive to make their communities a better place for all. This year, the awards are being announced on International Women’s Day, March 8, 2022.

Chantal Rytz
WRC Distinguished Alumna Award Recipient 2021
Chantal Rytz is an up-and-coming health-care leader who obtained her master's in cardiovascular and respiratory sciences from the University of Calgary in 2019 and is currently completing her doctor of philosophy in medical sciences from the Cumming School of Medicine.
Samaneh Ashoori
WRC Distinguished Graduate Student
Samaneh Ashoori is a trailblazing advocate for women in STEM and a doctor of philosophy candidate in the chemical and petroleum engineering program at the University of Calgary.
Shaelene Standing
WRC Distinguished Undergraduate Student
Shaelene Standing is a talented campus and community luminary in the Bachelor of Health Sciences program at the University of Calgary.
The Sheila O'Brien Award
Sheila O'Brien embodies a unique example of leadership that has allowed her to transcend the traditional barriers faced by women. Along with her leadership roles in the private sector, Ms. O'Brien has continued to be active in community and government affairs. The Sheila O'Brien Award for Excellence in Leadership is awarded annually to the volunteer who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and brought a sense of kindness to the Women's Resource Centre. The recipient is determined based on nominations by fellow WRC volunteers.

Sadaf Afzal
The Sheila O'Brien Award for Excellence in Leadership 2022
Sadaf Afzal is in her fifth year majoring in Biological Sciences with a minor in Psychology. Sadaf has devoted over 300 hours as a Women’s Resource Centre (WRC) volunteer, helping facilitate meaningful, inclusive, and engaging experiences for fellow volunteers and the larger campus community.
